For years I read advice to build a network, to write blog posts, to engage with communities, to share expertise. And for years I thought I had nothing unique to share. My technical expertise is standard. My writing skills are poor. My dictionary stopped expanding in my teenage years. And there’s nothing that I could think of writing that’s not already there. It’s why I never started a business as well.
And yet I read and enjoyed opinions, articles, blog posts that match these same conditions. Not only that, but at certain points they clicked & influenced me.
Until today. As I was driving to a customer office, and thinking how I can improve, I got an idea to start writing to you. Maybe it’s under influence of a book I’m reading [1], or the desire to explore new fronts, or maybe I finally matured to put myself out there. But as I started exploring the thought, I got an influx of ideas, I couldn’t stop coming up with topics until I arrived… And then they continued on my way back… And while at home I couldn’t concentrate on helping the family because of them…
So here I am, rushing to post this message before I get cold feet. And I get them every day as I walk with my barefoot shoes on the cold asphalt.
It will be rough.
And I’m scared.
I don’t know how I will react to the feedback.
But more than that, I’m excited.
Messages will be raw.
And you will laugh at me.
What I’m thinking of writing? Situations I’ve been in that lead to change in my behavior, funny to me stories, and failures - I got them loads.
What’s in it for you? A style of writing that’s rough, but refreshing - if it doesn’t come as cringy. Or you’ll find something relatable and reflect back how it went for you. Or you’ll read a story at the right time and right mindset that will trigger you to make a change, to explore an idea - I can only wish..
What I’m looking to get out of it? Exposure, failure, feedback, growth, opportunities. I’m sticking a hand through fog, unaware what’s on the other side.
But for now.. I’m nobody. As time goes I might grow into you, or you will block me. That’s how it goes with me at least.
