What effect does “Share your thoughts/experience/do you agree” in a video/post have on you?
Web search shows this call to action as one of the basic methods to drive engagement, but articles I checked didn’t include the psychological reasoning behind it.
- Does it encourage you to engage? Would you do it if the action was not there?
- Do you consider it an indication the author is interested in you?
- Or the decision to engage is driven by your perception of the author and your interest on the topic? In which case the task doesn’t have any effect.
- Is it overused phrase similar to “Like and Subscribe” on monetised Youtube videos?
My opinion earlier sided with 4. as that’s where I consumed most content. But I also don’t engage there, so it didn’t matter if it was present or not. Though I enjoy reading comments - and I somehow have perception, not validated, that then the ask does lead to more engagement.
If you use it in your posts - what effect did you observe? Keen to find out.
